| Race Notes |
| May 4, 2002 |
RICHMOND, VA
The Pontiac Excitement 400 was postponed because of rain exactly an hour after it was red-flagged at 9:36 p.m. The race was to have begun shortly after 7:00 pm, but was delayed until 9:00 pm while the track was dried from earlier rains.
The skies were still threatening when the field took the green flag. That threat became reality when the showers returned on lap 61. The cars ran under the caution flag until the race was red-flagged on lap 66.
Ward Burton dominated the first 62 laps, but lost the lead when he pitted. Dale Jarrett picked up the lead and held it when the race was stopped. He will lead the field to the green tomorrow. Michael Waltrip will be in second, followed by Bobby Hamilton, Frank Kimmel and Rusty Wallace.
The race has been rescheduled for 12 noon on Sunday. FX will begin their coverage at 11:30 am. www.motorsport.com |
